Basic Green Smoothie

Basic Green Smoothie

I know more often than not many people hear 'green smoothie' and shudder at the thought. But greens are such an essential part of our diets that we can't afford to miss out on. If you eat a high plant-based diet, you can guarantee that you're probably getting a really good amount of fibre daily. But if you don't,  then it can often be quite tricky to forget about how much fibre you are having, especially if you eat many processed and 'junk' foods.

Greens are essential to our diets as they are high in nutrients, vitamins and minerals - I guess Popeye was along the right lines by eating all that Spinach! The wonderful and delicate little leaf is bursting with benefits, from containing vitamins A, C and E, antioxidants including zinc and selenium (excellent for skin, hair and nails) and studies have even found it to be anti-inflammatory and aid in stress-relief to mention but a few benefits.

Often green smoothie recipes are unpalatable and off-putting if you're new to them. So it's best to take it one step at a time and introduce yourself to the beautiful world of greens transitionally. This is quite essential in order not to be put off (trust me). Though some of us might be able to go around eating plain raw greens, many people can't stand the taste. But, honestly, once you start to include more raw greens into your diet, and your taste buds adjust, you will start to taste the sweetness in them and even begin to crave them! This is partly why I use spinach in this recipe, it's flavour isn't too strong, it's easy to find, but its so so good for you.

Filling, good for your metabolism, full of essential vitamins and minerals, and even beautifying!
